El opositor Jorge Luis García Pérez, Antúnez, rechazó el martes la normalización de relaciones diplomáticas que el presidente Barack Obama persigue con la Isla porque considera que fortalece al Gobierno de Raúl Castro y debilita a la disidencia, informó AP.
En una conferencia de prensa en Washington, Antúnez calificó como espurio el acercamiento alcanzado entre ambos gobiernos porque no incluyó la opinión de disidentes cubanos residentes en la Isla.
El presidente de la cámara baja, el republicano por Ohio John Boehner, invitó a Antúnez y a su esposa, la también activista Yris Támara Pérez, a presenciar el discurso anual sobre el Estado de la Unión que Obama pronunciará la noche del martes durante una sesión bicameral del Congreso.

State of the Union Address This Evening
WASHINGTON - Two prominent Cuban dissidents, victims of Castro’s repression, will be guests of Senator Marco Rubio and House Speaker John Boehner at President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address this evening. José Luís García Pérez (Antunez), a former Cuban political prisoner who spent 17 years in prison and is in a short visit to the United States, will be the special guest of Speaker Boehner. Mr. Antunez has expressed serious concerns about the Obama-Castro Pact.
Rosa María Payá, 28, daughter of slain Cuban Christian Democrat and leader of the Christian Liberation Movement, Oswaldo Payá, will be a special guest of Senator Marco Rubio. Mr. Payá was murdered by Cuban police when a police car rammed the car in which he was travelling off the road in Eastern Cuba. The Payá Family has called for an international investigation. South African Bishop Desmond Tutu and other prominent world leaders have urged President-General Raul Castro to permit an independent international inquiry into the case.
In addition, Marlene Alejandre Triana, daughter of Armando Alejandre, Jr., one of the pilots murdered by Cuban warplanes in the Florida Straits in international airspace while looking for refugees in 1996, will be the guest of Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Besides Mr. Alejandre, Jr., two other US citizens and a Florida resident were killed aboard two small single-engine Cessnas that were destroyed by Cuban MIGs that fired missiles against them.
The U.S. presented evidence to the International Civil Aviation Commission (ICAC) in Montreal. The ICAC said “the Cuban Air Force shot down the first aircraft while all three aircraft were north of the 12 mile limit of Cuban airspace. Dr. Madeleine Albright, then United States Ambassador to the United Nations and President Bill Clinton said at the time that the United States would not rest until the murderers were brought to justice. Instead, then Minister of Cuba’s Armed Forces General Raul Castro pinned medal on them decorated them. The United States has never submitted their names to the International Court of Justice nor to the INTERPOL. It was later reported that a grand jury had a sealed indictment for General Raul Castro.
Ambassador James Cason, the President of the Center for a Free Cuba, an independent non-partisan human rights organization, said that “it would appropriate for the President to take advantage of Ms. Payá’s, Mr. Antunez’, and Ms. Alejandre’s visit to Washington to invite them to the White House so that the United States government, aside from hearing the Cuban government’s views, will have the benefit of hearing from these victims of repression and of the Cuban people.”
