The proud warriors of Baker Company wanted to do something to pay tribute To our fallen comrades. So since we are part of the only Marine Infantry Battalion left in Iraq the one way that we could think of doing that is By taking a picture of Baker Company saying the way we feel. The attached photo was forwarded from one of the last U.S. Marine companies in Iraq. They would like to have it passed to as many people as possible, to let the folks back home know that they remember why they're there and that they remember those who've been lost.

TERMINA LA ELECCION EN IRAQ

Iraquíes esperan en línea para depositar su voto.
La Comisión Electoral de Iraq informó en Bagdad el jueves al anochecer, que los centros de votación para las históricas elecciones legislativas que deben situar a Iraq en el camino democrático habían cerrado a las 5 de la tarde, hora iraquí, aunque una versión no confirmada decía que en algunos lugares hubo que aplazar el cierre una hora para acomodar a la enorme participación de votantes.

La Comisión Electoral añadió que se registró una “fuerte participación” de la ciudadanía. Las autoridades habían dicho que esperaban que unos 10 millones de iraquíes votaran. Decenas de miles de soldados y policías iraquíes apoyados por las tropas de Estados Unidos se hicieron notar para garantizar la seguridad en la votación. Los intentos insurgentes por malograr la votación fueron débiles y pocos, dijeron las autoridades.

La vigorosa concurrencia electoral se notó en las ciudades norteñas de Mosul y Kirkuk, sobre todo en los barrios curdos, y también en las provincias occidentales donde la insurgencia antidemocrática parecía más fuerte. Se trata de las provincias dominadas por la secta musulmana sunita opuesta a la secta musulmana shiíta, que es mayoritaria.

La mayoría de los sunitas boicotearon en enero pasado los comicios para elegir al parlamento interino, pero en la elección legislativa definitiva la gran participación de votantes se debió en parte al gran número de sunitas que acudieron a votar en muchos de los 33,000 centros de votación.

En la elección del jueves los iraquíes votaron para establecer un gobierno democrático permanente. Se esperaban algunos resultados preliminares en las últimas horas del jueves, aunque los resultados oficiales definitivos pudieran tardar muchos días o semanas. La cuenta de votos podría demorar hasta finales de diciembre o primeros días de enero.
